What is Agile Transformation?

Agile transformation is the process of transitioning an entire organization from current state to new one, based on agile principles.

Your organization is working somehow at the moment. However, it requires changes: decrease time to market of your products, increase your teams’ productivity and engagement, or improve the quality of your products. In this case, agile practices and principles will definitely help you to solve the issues. To make them a part of your organization’s life, agile transformation is needed.

Why agile transformations?

The main reasons for the company to start agile transformation are:

  • Reduce time to market
  • Increase team’s productivity and engagement
  • Improve cooperation between a business and development departments
  • Increase product quality

How is Agile Transformation achieved?

Step 1 Go Decision.

Once a company decides to do the agile transformation, they need to create transformation vision and goals, form leadership team. The leadership team will lead the transformation in future.

Step 2 Planning

The leadership team creates a transformation roadmap: main steps and activities to be taken in order to achieve transformation goals. This step is important to get support from C-level, approve all necessary budgets and transformation vision. Be ready that roadmap may (and will) be changed in future as new insights are gathered.

Step 3 Execution

This step is needed to implement our original plans. Be ready to move with short iterative and incremental cycles. Provide regular sync-ups with the leadership team in order to remove impediments and share the knowledge. Hands-on experience with transformation helps your leadership team to avoid typical mistakes.

Step 4 Inspect and Adapt

Take the feedback after each completed item from your transformation backlog and adjust your roadmap and transformation backlog if needed. Be agile in reaching the goals.
